WAHARAU - TAPAKANGA

Our 8th May 2004 trip from Waharau to Tapapakanga Stream featured 4 new boots, one new face and 14 wasp strings.  Claire, Steve, Carl, Nigel and Lindsay thoroughly enjoyed the variety the trip offered and with a superb contribution from the weather office, the day lived up to the highest expectations.

An 8.30 departure from Waharau saw the party at Adams Lookout too early for lunch, but not too disciplined to yield to tempting views, warming sun and still air, and to enjoy a second morning tea!  The track junction was nearby and there followed a long, well-marked descent to the Tapapakanga stream.

This was pleasant and varied with a lunch glade, a kauri grove and the dubious bonus of a wasps nest.

The stream was a delight with pools, cascades and a short gorge.  There was enough stream bashing to properly christen the new boots, and the party arrived at the car well satisfied and after yet another lingering rest in the sun.  Obligatory fish and chips in Kaiaua completed a great day.
