Stewart Island Paradise

Sitting in my lounge surrounded by stuff
Need to get it all in the pack
That's a laugh!!

Noel and Eileen
Due to arrive
Off to the airport
With Steve we drive

Arrive in Invercargill
Sun shining through
Blue Star Taxi to Tuatara Lodge
Dinner at Waxy O'Sheas......  Blue Cod!!!

Stewart Island Flight
Up, Up, Up... hold on tight
But we're in good hands
As Gerald the pilot lands

Afternoon walk up Doughboy Hill
I spotted a brown Kiwi
Didn't get a picture
But... Oh, what a thrill

Started day all vim & vigour
A gentle climb up Adams Hill
Mud & tree roots underfoot
Across the top we soon descend

Over the sand-dunes we hit the beach
A trillion sand-flies attack
For two hours we walk non-stop
Too unpleasant to rest for a snack!

We had planned a rest day today
Thank God for that
Need to recuperate
And rest our feet

Out for an afternoon stroll
Up "Big Sandhill"
Great views all around
And rare plants to be found

Up at 5.30ish, early breakfast
And on the track to Ferry Landing
More mud along the way
Easy walk...  on a perfect day

Ken arrived in his Water Taxi
To take us back to Golden Bay
600 metre walk over the hill
To Stewart Island Backpackers,
where we stay

At last we shower
Then down to the Pub
For a pint of cold beer
And some welcome grub

Sunday is quiz night for the locals
And a very welcoming lot they are
Lots of laughter and fun
The "Deutland Dickheads" won!

Up early for dawn chorus
Kaka's flying way overhead
A perfect end of our adventure
Stewart Island, a paradise "to be sure!"
