Ruahine Ramble

Off down the track
With our packs on our back
To the rebuilt Heritage Hut for the night
What an impressive sight!

Leisurely morning ahead
As I lay in my bed
Listening to the birds waking up
And the billy boiling for my cup

 Four hours to Iron Gates
As the rain starts to fall
The Oroua River far below
Running fast… look at it go!

 Stoats & rats
along the way
Heads squashed in traps…
not their day!!

Good fire lit in Corker Cooker
As Tongue & Meats arrive all wet
Lovely dinner of sausages & mash
The long-drop a 20 metre dash!

 Back to Heritage once again
Hoping the Tunupo Creek not in flood
Relaxing afternoon for Noel & Stephen
Whilst I went for a walk, back out in the mud

Up Tunupo Trig Track
Storm damage all around
Sun finally shinning
Great treescape photos to be found

Early to rise and off to Apiti
Mary, Jo and boys still in bed
Yummy breakfast and a cuppa tea
Then back to Auckland we head

 Another trip over
But not the last
Ruahine range….
Our fondness remains.
