Mataitai Forest
20th July 2008

Five victims came along as Nigel would say,
Started out on a rain forecast day
In Noel's van we climbed with our packs
And off to the Mataitai Forest to walk the Red Track

The track was muddy and covered in fern,
The downward decent slippery with clay, hard to discern
Out with the secaters Robert got busy,
Cutting things back to make the walk easy

Just as the rain began to fall,
Out came the coats to keep us all warm
Pretty soon we couldn't believe our eyes,
As hail started to fall from the skies

Further on the fungi growing in cow pooh
Was spectacular, along with the view
Just as we were about to stop for lunch,
The sun appeared and we had a pleasant munch

Onward down the steam running track,
As an adventure this trip didn't lack
Homeward bound now, it was just a short walk
It was great to get out for fresh air and a talk!
