Waitakere Tale

It was a 9 a.m. start
At the Karamatura carpark
We tied on our boots
And headed up the track
With packs on our backs

Would we go left or right
On the loop we would walk
Up the Tom Thumb Track
Past the Karamatura fork

Morning tea was at ten
Under Tom Thumb Kauri
I was surprised I could text
A message to Stephen

Twin Peaks track covered in mud
Huffing & puffing up the hill we did go
To the highest point in the Waitakeres
Te ToioKawharu at 459 metres

Lunch was a treat
Relaxing on a fallen log seat
The rain began to fall
As we descended Huia Ridge
The Tui and Kereru called
From high in the trees
The downhill slog was hard on our knees

An Ice Creanm to finish
Goodie Goodie Gum Drops was just delish
An excellent day for we three
Nigel, Carl and me!!

Excuse my poetry it's not very good
But if Sam Hunt can write it
I figured anyone could!!
