Last weekend,
despite the wind and the rain, ten intrepid trekkers ventured over to
Tiri Tiri Matangi once again, to do battle with the foibles of the
foghorn motor. While some brave souls tackled the grass and mud
outside, the rest of us kept nice and dry in the shed, painting,
polishing and trying to start the motor. After bleeding all the
innards and a few false starts, it was finally blasted into life by
Andrew, but despite making a lot of noise and smoke we could not get
the pressure over five and we needed thirty-five to sound the
horn. So it was back to the bunkhouse where Eileen had prepared
a sumptuous feast of Cottage Pie and salad, and Claire had conjured
up her famous Crockpot Chocolate Pudding.
After dinner Mark led a few brave souls on one of his 'short'
walks. This one was only a couple of hours though. (Note: Mark
took me (Claire) to the Petrel station... Oh so cute,
muttonbirds.)
The next morning we tried the motor once again, but to no
avail. This time we found an oil leak and an air leak. So
it will have to wait for another day.
We were lucky that the weather was starting to improve and we were
able to leave at 1500. Oh well, I had no excuse to miss night
shift that night. The intrepid trekkers were, Colin, Mark,
Noel, Eileen, Claire, Barbara, Andrew, Stephen G, Lynda and Laurine
